Centerm Container Terminal
Vancouver, British ColumbiaDP World Canada Inc, the Centerm terminal services contractor has nearly completed a $150 million redevelopment project that, when completed in Spring 2006, will double that facility's annual capacity to 900,000 containers.
PBK has designed the last phase of the redevelopment, the Site Service Facility that will house engineering and maintenance operations related to container and breakbulk handling equipment such as top-pick loaders, rubber tired gantries, tractor/bomb-carts, crane spreaders, fork lifts and general facility maintenance. In addition it will include support functions such as the welding, painting and locker shops, lunchrooms, locker rooms, offices, meeting and training facilities.
Due to site constraints imposed by existing buried services, contaminated soils, structural pile driving requirements and an already crowded maintenance site that must remain in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the Site Services Facility has been designed to the tightest possible footprint.
Located in close proximity to the downtown urban core, the visual impact of the SSF has been of great concern to the Vancouver City Planning Department and the general public.
