Hamilton Mohawk 4-Pad ArenaHamilton, Ontario
The new Mohawk 4 Pad Ice Arena is designed to provide the community of
Hamilton a facility that will serve figure skating, recreational skating,
minor hockey and adult hockey user groups. This Design-Build project was a
P3 effort undertaken by the Hamilton Arena Partners comprising the City of
Hamilton, Nustadia and EllisDon. The building is situated on an elevated
plateau and is orientated to the east with an impressive overview of Lake
Ontario. The main entry lobby features a double height glazed atrium space
from which all the other functions of the building are readily accessed.
The lower level includes concessions, proshop, reception counter and
administrative offices and ice related spaces. The ice rinks are arranged
side by side and connected to a heated viewing corridor which provides
access to the 24 player dressing rooms as well as 2 additional multi-purpose
change rooms to permit maximum user flexibility. Each rink provides seating
for 50 spectators and an additional 4 wheelchair accessible seating
positions. The upper mezzanine includes a kitchen, meeting room and a large
200 seat restaurant with expansive windows providing views to all 4 ice pads
and incorporates three triangular seating sections that extend into the
arena volume.
