Wichita Sports CenterWichita, Kansas
Prime Consultant: Gossen Livingston Architects
This twin pad ice facility is situated close to the Arkansas River in the sports entertainment precinct of the city. The center has an Olympic ice sheet with seating for 700, as well as an NHL ice sheet with seating for 300. Planning of the new facility took into account future needs; the building has been designed and located on the site, so that it can accommodate one or two additional ice rinks in the future. The design includes a large skaters lobby for public skating programs, a restaurant / lounge on the second floor, a large pro shop, party rooms, eight dressing rooms, and an oversized dressing room and administration office for the Wichita Thunder. A double entry system into the building allows for spectator and non-spectator events to run simultaneously with complete crowd control.
